Online Counselling in Malaysia: Support From Wherever You Are

Not everyone lives ten minutes from a counselling room. Some of my clients are in Sabah and Sarawak, some are Malaysians working abroad, some are parents who cannot leave the house easily, and some simply feel safer talking from their own bedroom. Online counselling exists for exactly these situations.

I have been counselling online across multiple platforms since 2021, alongside in-person work — so this article comes from daily practice, not theory.

What you actually need

  • A phone, tablet, or laptop with a stable connection
  • A private corner where you will not be overheard — a bedroom, a parked car, even a quiet stairwell
  • Headphones, which help with both privacy and focus

That is all. If the line drops, we simply reconnect — it happens, and it has never ruined a session.

Is it as effective as meeting in person?

For most everyday concerns — anxiety, stress, grief, relationship strain, low mood — research and my own experience agree: online sessions can work just as well, provided you have privacy and feel comfortable on video. Some people actually open up more easily from their own space.

It is not right for every situation. Where there is an active crisis or safety concern, in-person and medical support come first — and I will always be honest with you about that in our first conversation.

Privacy and fees

Online sessions are held one-to-one and treated with the same confidentiality as any session in my room. Fees are also the same: RM50 for the 30-minute first consultation, RM99 per individual session, RM150 for couples. Details are on the session fees page.

Wherever you are in Malaysia, support can reach you. Message me on WhatsApp and we will find a time that works.
